Researchers and professionals

The Naître parents project is research funded by the FRQS as part of a concerted action in perinatal care and early childhood. In the long run, it will enable a better understanding of the psychosocial and medical issues related to the transition to parenthood. It may also contribute to advancing knowledge about parents’ needs and preferences, and how they use services and resources during this period. Practices documented in Quebec could be of interest to researchers and future researchers in program evaluation here and elsewhere in the world.

Our goals

  • Identify the needs of Quebec mothers and fathers between the early postnatal period and the child’s first birthday.
  • Document parents’ preferences as well as their perceptions of the adequacy of the care and services offered to meet their needs, including unmet needs.
  • Identify and review proximity-based, intersectoral, or innovative practices evaluated in Quebec, Canada, or internationally that could meet parents’ needs during the transition to parenthood and determine the characteristics that contribute to improving health outcomes.
  • Identify concrete directions to improve care and services to meet parents’ needs.
